Revealing Psychology: Types and Deep Psychological Problems

Every day, we face different challenges and stresses. Every day we interact with other people, and help them solve their troubles, but sometimes it is difficult for us to understand our own thoughts and emotions. We cannot cope with our psychological problems and do not understand when it is necessary to seek help from a specialist.

But at first, you should understand what psychology is, what the psychological concerns are, and whether it is possible to cope with them on your own.

What is human psychology?

What is human psychology?

It is the science of human behavior and mental processes. It helps to study things inaccessible to external observation — human consciousness, thinking, feelings, emotions, motivation, etc.

There are different types of psychology. It depends on what aspects of mental health need to be worked on. Types of it are classified according to various criteria, for example:

By age group, psychology is divided into these categories:

  • child;
  • youth;
  • adult;
  • gerontopsychology (the psychology of an elderly person).

By the field of activity, psychology can be:

  • organizational — studies aspects of organization and management;
  • clinical — deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders;
  • pedagogical — studies aspects of education and upbringing;
  • sports — based on psychological issues of sports and physical culture;
  • legal psychology — used in the fields of law and law enforcement.

What are psychological problems?

What are psychological problems?

These are internal experiences that arise due to certain events in a person’s life. Because of them, a person can feel anxiety, emotional despondency, anger, and depression.

In psychology, all issues can be divided into 4 types:

  1. individual — related to the biological state of the individual. Among them stand out fears caused by losses in life: sudden death of loved ones, illness, feeling of emptiness, and loss of the meaning of life;
  2. personal — arise due to the difficulties in social life. Such a person has low self-esteem, does not feel part of a group, and finds it difficult to communicate with others;
  3. subjective — related to the performance of any task, due to the lack of necessary knowledge and skills in certain areas;
  4. identity issues — have a connection with long-term goals and self-realization. Often, there is a feeling that life is meaningless, there is a lack of time in the day, and a lack of motivation.

What psychological problems are most frequently diagnosed in people?

The general and most common mental health issues include:

  • low self-esteem;
  • inferiority complex — lack of self-worth, constant doubts, feeling of inability to meet standards;
  • anxiety due to uncontrollable fears;
  • trauma on the background of experiencing negative events in the past;
  • codependence on another person;
  • depression;
  • post-traumatic stress disorder;
  • panic attacks

Is it possible to independently solve psychological problems?

Is it possible to independently solve psychological problems?

It is important to remember that having trouble is not a sign of weakness. In addition, some of them can be solved independently, without consulting a doctor.

For example, try doing:

  • psychological exercises — meditation, deep breathing, visualizations. They help to change thinking and behavior;
  • change of lifestyle — add physical activity to your day, balance your diet according to the ratio of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, try to get 7–9 hours of full sleep;
  • spend time with family and friends. Especially, in moments that are emotionally difficult and you need support.

However, if the problem is serious or chronic, it will be difficult to solve it on your own. In such cases, it is critical to consult a specialist — a psychologist or psychotherapist.

Here are some signs that you may need professional help with your troubles:

  • it causes significant discomfort or disruption in life;
  • you cannot cope with it on your own;
  • it gets worse over time;
  • you feel that your trouble affects your relationships with loved ones.
