Coblation: new technologies in the ENT surgeon's arsenal

Imagine that you or your child has problems with the nose or throat. For example, such as a constantly blocked nose or frequent inflammation of the tonsils, and you are offered an operation. Previously, the removal of tonsils and adenoids was a rather traumatic process: open operations were usually performed, which were accompanied by severe pain and a long recovery period. Fortunately, there is now a modern minimally invasive method of treating ENT organs using cold plasma surgery — coblation.

Coblation is the most gentle method of treatment, which allows you to perform surgical interventions on the ENT organs almost bloodlessly, reduce postoperative pain, and accelerate postoperative rehabilitation. This is a method of cold-plasma surgery used in the removal of tonsils (tonsillectomy), adenoids (adenotomy), correction of snoring, etc.

Coblation reduces the risk of complications to minimum. Thanks to the use of cold plasma, doctors can remove tissue with high precision, avoiding damage to healthy structures, which significantly shortens the rehabilitation period.

What are the advantages of cold plasma surgery for the patient?

  • Less pain: You will experience much less pain after surgery than with traditional surgical methods.
  • Fast healing: Mucous membranes heal faster, and with throat surgery, the patient will be able to swallow and speak normally almost immediately and therefore return to normal life the very next day.
  • Absence of bleeding: The operation is practically bloodless, as the device specially cauterizes the vessels.
  • Safety: This method is as safe as possible because the doctor precisely controls the process and does not damage healthy tissues.

How is the procedure performed?

The coblation method is a one-day surgery, and there are almost no contraindications, noted otolaryngologist, ENT surgeon, and plastic surgeon Roman Denisenko. For more information about coblation treatment, see the COR-Medical life channel.

The intervention does not involve a long stay in the hospital. The cold plasma device ensures careful work with tissues: the places of incisions practically do not bleed, and there are no burns left around the operated place. Thanks to this, healing occurs rapidly.

This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, so you will not feel pain, and this operation lasts approximately 30 minutes.

What is coblation used for?

What is coblation used for?

Coblation is used to treat various diseases of the nose and throat, in particular:

  • Chronic tonsillitis (tonsillitis)
  • For adenotomy
  • For snoring and sleep apnea
  • When correcting the curvature of the nasal septum (in some cases).

Coblation is a modern, effective method of treating diseases of the nose and throat. It allows you to achieve excellent results with minimal discomfort for the patient. If you or your child often have a runny nose or a sore throat, be sure to consult your doctor about the possibility of coblation treatment.
