An innovative complex for cancer diagnosis, Cor-lab, is being tested in Kyiv

Two leading pathomorphological laboratories in Kyiv, including the Limbach laboratory, have begun testing Cor-LAB, a software and hardware complex that opens up new opportunities for pathomorphological laboratories.

The COR-Medical press service reported this.

Cor-LAB is a modern digital pathology system that allows you to significantly speed up the process of diagnosing oncological diseases, increase the accuracy of results and minimize the human factor. The report says that thanks to the use of digital technologies, doctors can receive test results faster, which is critically essential for the timely start of treatment.

The exact way the Cor-LAB hardware and software complex works was shown by pathologist Oleksandr Hryhoruk.

“Cor-LAB consists of specialized equipment and software that allows you to label, identify, and recognize materials for pathological morphology, as well as use the data for subsequent diagnostics and transfer to a “second opinion”. Our team is working on the development, and the system is currently in the final stage of testing,” says the author of the project, Tygran Amalyan.

The press service noted that Cor-LAB has the following advantages:

  • Reduction of diagnosis time by 70-80%
  • Reduction of human error
  • Creation of the first National Library of Pathomorphological Images in Ukraine
  • The possibility of storing laboratory data of patients in a single digital system
  • Rapid transfer of information, which significantly improves the effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases in Ukraine

The development of digital pathology is an essential step for Ukrainian medicine. Today, digital pathology methods are widely used in European countries, the USA, and the UK. Therefore, introducing such systems brings the level of diagnostics in Ukraine closer to world standards.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in the world. In 2022, about 20 million new cases of cancer were registered, of which 9.7 million resulted in fatalities. Technological developments in medicine open up new opportunities to combat cancer. Cor-LAB is another step towards modern diagnostics that can reduce cancer mortality and improve the quality of life of patients in Ukraine.

It is very important that the system is not only tested but also actively used in hospitals.
